well.. i have a 88 cherokee..
I6 4.0 (came from a 97 Wrangler)

i just traveled 1000 miles from El Paso to South Tx. and now my jeep is acting weird..
today the power steering pulley looked like it wanted to fall off..
(stopped)
and then i here a noise coming from another pulley.. but don't know which one it is..

and now every time i put it in reverse it like dies..
then i try to Crank it up again.. it don't want to..
i wait like 1 min or so then it will crank up..
it just started to do this.

what do you think this can be?

it sounds like a nuetral safty switch i had the same problem with my old wrangler and that fixed it.you can try to clean it off with some lite duty sand paper first to see if that works just a cheap fix for temp, or just get a new one...

well just went outside and stared it and put it reverse.
it didn't stop.. kinda drove it around.. seemed to be ok..

but i'll look into that nuetral safty switch.. just to be on the safe side..

Wouldn't a neutral switch problem not allow the engine to crank?

Does it have an idler pulley on it? Check that for the noise if it does.

well today i'm gonna drive it around.. hopefully it wont give me problems..
i'll post what i find..
thanks for helping me.
