I have a 91 Cherokee I6 4.0L with 135,000 miles. When I turn the key, it cranks like normal but does not start.

Matt

i'd start with the obvious... are you getting spark? how about fuel? check the dist., cap, rotor, wires, plugs, etc.... does it try to start at all?

135k miles? check all the little things then go look at the fuel pump, mine gave up around that milage, and it was right after i filled up too whick made it a pain to change...

Sounds like the crankcase positioning sensor mounted on the bell housing.

Easy check...
Near the rear of the engine there is the connector to the Cps. (Its the one with three wires and runs behind the engine)

Unplug it and reconnect it. Crank the engine. Try this a couple of times. The connector generally fails.
