I've read a lot lately as to what rear end is in what XJ, but what I'd like to know is; what is the difference? I have a '99 with the Chrysler 8.25, so I was wondering if there's any real difference between the two (8.25/Dana 35C), like is one more likely to hold up better, or is it really just a pick 'em. Just curious what the differences are.

I havn´t been into an 8.25 in awhile (early models). But if the late models, are pretty much the same, they arn´t a bad rear end. They installed them, in many full size vans and pickup´s. They are some easier to work on, than the Dana´s, but they do have a collapsible sleeve in the pinion, that can act up, if some kind of extreme physical strain is put on the rear drive shaft. If the drive shaft is hit in the wrong plain or the vehicle is overloaded, the stress can partially collapse the sleeve, causing the pinion to loosen up (been there done that). But the good news is, it´s fairly easy to fix.[addsig]
