Key turns only a single click is heard

New member - 1st jeep owner
2005 Grand Cherokee. 3.7 V6

thought battery was bad it was - battery replaced
jeep not running since Dec 23 and sat outside in the cold
checked all fuses and relays - cleaned many of dark color and will replace all next month
turn key hear one click
any ideas
have haynes repair book and understand cars

Check the leads to the starter solenoid for good connections. Check the ground. Rap on the starter solenoid a few times with the handle of a screwdriver or a rubber mallet. Then try to crank it again.

The click says there is power for a moment, but not enough to engage the solenoid to direct full voltage to the starter.

Have you jumpstarted the vehicle?

Do your lights dim when you turn the key?

Clean terminals and the opposite ends of the grounds where they connect to the engine and chassis
