I have a 1980 CJ7 with T176. I think the shifter is rebuilt wrong because the reverse lights are on at all times EXCEPT when I put the transmission in reverse. Then the lights go out. I removed the switch and it is a continuity switch with a bar in the shifter that acuates it. When actuated (Pushes the switch in) it makes continuity. The bar stays under the switch until I put it in reverse, then it moves.
My question is, when the Jeep is in Reverse, is the switch supposed to make continuity or break it? Can some one check on this for me? The plug for the switch is near the battery on the firewall.
I want ot make sure I 1. Have the right switch, and 2. Have the shifter working right.
