Steering Issues

Just bought an 83 CJ5 (83) with only 61K. It had oversized tires on it before purchase and standard rims and tires were put back on before I got it. I think the steering stabilizer was changed to compensate for the oversized tires as the jeep drifts and is hard to steer. Purchased a new stabilizer today to put on it but wondering if anything else might be an issue? THanks! Casey

The steering stabilizer should not cause the jeep to drift; your issue is coming from a different source. Have you checked if the jeep is aligned? Also you may want to check for a dropped pitman arm...

That's a common problem with CJ's. Have somebody turn the steering wheel while you watch the steering linkage for play.

Check closely:
Tierod ends
Shackle bushings
Steering box to frame attachment
Play in steering box
Steering shaft between column and steering box
Ball joints
