'93 YJ flashing(?) 4x4 dash indicator

So we finally got snow in the Pacific NW & I'm having a blast driving my '93 2.5 manual YJ I bought a year ago. Question, I noticed the 4x4 indicator light is flashing about every 1/2 second however it's not consistantly flashing during the drive. I'm sure I'm "all the way in" & it's too measured to be the indicator shorting... I thought it could be a speed warning for the range I'm in, 4 high, or sensing that the 4x4 range isn't needed but that doesn't seem right cause I'm on a sheet of ice. Anyone have an idea, suggestion or similar experience? Thanks MGD

my wife's 93 has never done that. maybe a loose wire on the sensor?
