Cj-5 loses all power when i turn the key

I have a 1978 Cj-5, when the key is in the ignition at the on position all the lights ect work. When I turn it to try and start it I lose all power! Any ideas?

Check your battery connections clean, tight, ect.

Then try the other connections like starter all grounds!

same thing happened to me, it ended up being the starter

Mine done that and it was the battery ground.

When engaging the starter all power is diverted to the starter and the ignition system to facilitate the need for cold cranking amps. The radio and all dash lights will turn off. If you get not action from there either the starter solenoid or the starter have gone bad, or the battery has issues.

Do a voltage drop test. It involves a metal and you go through the connections with the positive on any thing powered and clamp the negative on a good clean connection on the block. It could be bad wires, connection, ground, bad battery, the possibilities are endless
