What is the best engine to swap into my 94 YJ?

Generally , I would agree with your dad since it's a popular swap but it will no doubt be a bit more $$ than anticipated. There a long list of parts swapping to consider and adapters most likely as well. Driveshaft length may come into play too. You'll also have to consider if the trans/transfer case and axles are up to it since there will be an increase in hp/torque. If your jeep is currently fitted with a 2.5 , then a 4.0 will be an easier swap . You'll still have to deal with some parts changes but since the YJ came with a four or a six , adapters won't be necessary . You'll just have to get what the six cylinder jeep calls for if swapping from a four cylinder for example. My guess is you want a small block for street use ? A jeep gets by fine with a for or six cylinder off road unless your doing extreme hill climbing for example and need the extra torque but even an axle swap or ring and pinion swap will be a better choice in that case .
