I have a 2000 TJ SE. When you back up it makes a clicking sound, my local Mechanic thinks it's in the clutch area but would have to pull the Transmission a be sure $$$$$$$$. hoping for a cheap fix any idea's?
Thanks' JJ

where is the noise coming from? does it cause any weird feeling or the jeep to act weird? it could be a stone stuck somewhere or something wrapped around your drive shaft and the mechanic knows he can get some easy money out of you.

look under the jeep for weird stuff wrapped around parts and maybe make a video of the noise

Jack stands to get all four tires off the ground. Engine off and trans in neutral, have someone spin the wheels by hand while yor listen for the noise. Spin the front as well. To try reverse put it in gear but clutch in.

Is you e-brake disengaged?

When do you hear the sound - sitting in the driveway, or only when going down the road? Do you hear the sound when coasting in neutral
