88 YJ need to know about steering column

I recently started working on my 88 YJ trying to get all the lights ironed out. Runs and drives like a boss but for me to drive on the road have to have lights functional. I am currently blowing fuses and have had smoke coming out of my steering column and am fixing to start chasing down wiring issues. I'm replacing the turn signal switch and wiring throughout column but I'm not sure I have the OE column but have no way of knowing. Any ideas? Anyone with a stock 88 or similar year possibly post some pictures of their steering column? Any help much appreciated!!!

It has cruise control on the turn signal lever and tilt lever is that original or a different column

My turn signals and e lights still on column just moved ignition switch to dash. The switch in the column can become a pain when it starts to wear

Don't know what's shorted in your column but you don't want it to be your ignition. Probably a wire rubbing or exposed to a ground

Pull it apart. It might not be where the short is but now you have burnt wires in there.

that is original sounding. my 87 had cruise control and tilt, also. its a regular ol gm column though so you can get one from Camaros and s10 pickups, if I remember right.
