Quick intake/exhaust

There seems to be a pipe running from the bottom of my airbox to my headers and I'm curious what that pipe is used for and if I removed it for a cold air intake would it cause any problems

88 Jeep Wrangler 2.5 liter

its a metal solid pipe or the flexy one that is just to heat the air when its cold out? the metal one goes to your catalytic converter, if I remember right. the flexy one, you can remove because most people are missing them anyways

It very flex and it runs directly after the headers weld together. If I remove it for some intake upgrades should I plug it up or leave it open?

yes, its just a heat riser tube to help send warm air into your intake when the weather is cold. the jeep will run without it because most people lose it anyways. it just takes the warm air from around the exhaust and lets it go into the intake when the little thermo flap on the bottom of the intake tube lets it in
