timing

last night i set my timing. im pretty confused, the marks go 0, 4, 8, 12, 16...... and so on.if im supposed to set this thing at 9* btdc why doesnt it run right at 9? when i set it at like 20 it runs good. should i not set it at the nine mark? or is something wrong here? :-? [addsig]

so im guessing that the timing should be set at 9 and since mine only runs good set much higher than that i have problems!!! thanks and if anyone knows whats goin on please respond.[addsig]
