Back from the shop...

A while ago i bought myself an '82 cj-7 with amc258 (4.2l inline 6) for next to nothing. Pretty nasty condition all around, but at least the engine was solid.

During the first few weeks, i drove it around just to figure out all the things wrong with it, then i dropped it off at my local jeep specialist, gave them a pile of cash and said "go nuts, guys..."

I let them know of the horrible acceleration, the rough idle that would frequently stall, the awful "lawnmower" smell, and the pops and sputters.

Part of the inpection indicated that it needed a new exaust and extensive carb work. I figure if i'm gonna have to do that now, i might as well do it right, so i had them throw in a borla catback and weber carb.

Fortunately, the rest of it didn't need extensive work, so i got off easy.

I finaly got it back out of the shop, took it out on the road and i tell you, it was like having a brand new engine.

The weber pretty much took care of most of my problems on this little sucker. It doesnt smell anymore, it runs very smooth now, it won't stall unless i do something stupid like mis-shift, and as far as acceleration... holy crap! I can actualy pass cars now!!

Anyways, this is just the first step in what will be a rather lengthy restoration project, but i'll be sure to keep you posted as i get stuff done.

The next projects i have lined up are:

body work (lots of rust!)

AMC T-5 gearbox swap (currently have 4 speed manual)

borla headers

4.0l head swap
