Opinion of this Jeep

So, I'm looking for a new jeep. My requirements are:

Yellow
1996 or newer
around the $10K range
Daily driver

My hopes are
Auto
6 cyl
slightly larger tires

So, everything I look at is a 2000 6cyl for 12 - 14K. That's alot of money! I might as well buy new.. Anyway, enough complaining. I'm going tonight to look at this jeep.

1999 Jeep Wrangler 4 cyl.
33 x 13.50 x 15 Super Swamper LTB
Custom Bumpers
KC Stainless Steel lights
Full size spare
black soft top
K & N air filter /oil filter

It looks sweet, but when I talked to the guy I found that it was a respray (originally gold), it has 110K miles, and has a 3 inch body lift.

What's the opinion? It's about 2 hours away, so don't want to waste my time if you guys don't think it's worth it.

Looks decent, but I'd guess its value at $4k-$5k. Keep in mind that those tires are bias ply, they won't balance or ride as well onroad as a radial. Not a problem if you know what you're getting into and road manners aren't really an issue for you. The LTB's are a pretty soft compound so you won't get a lot of lift out of them. Great tire offroad, tough and aggressive.

Should you get it, I would swap the body lift for a 2" coil spacer lift or a 3.5" or 4" spring lift.

It'll be a dog with those heavy 33" tires and stock axle gears. I regeared my 4banger from 4.11 to 5.38 to help compensate for the large heavy tires.

do you know what rear gear it has?
I hope it has the Chrysler not the Dana 35

The rig sure does look nice!
the soft top would be nice also.

Nice looking Jeep. I would have to agree that the 4 cyl is going to be underpowered with the LTB's.

12-14K...I am not sure its worth that much even with all the add ons. Kelly Blue Books it out at
Excellent
$7,310

Good
$6,695

Fair
$5,885
even with all of the add on's. Its the mileage thats killing the price, AVG should be around 73,000 for a 00.
As for it as a DD...smaller tires and better road pattern, and with a re-gear you could expect around 18+MPG with the 2.5.

Keep looking! It took me almost a year before I found what I was looking for. I'd personally stay away from the 4cyl and the 33 LTB's. All the prices you've stated seem way to much for what your getting. Also, try to stick with private parties, they will tend to be cheaper. I picked up my 97 with a 4.0 for 5K. Granted it had 118k and was a salvage(repaired) title but I knew what had happend to the jeep. The key is to keep an eye out and be patient.

What I stated with and what it is now.

I'm still under 10k for the whole project. When I get the axle in(when hell freezes over) plus the cost of the jeep, tax, title, tires, lift, you name it....it should be around $10,500 or so. Best of luck with the search, you'll find what your looking for.

Yeah. I think the thing that is really driving up the price is that i want yellow. They seem to be less common, so I have less of a selection.

I agree wholeheartedly with firemanharry and bounty.......that first yellow one you posted looked great but............it's a 4banger. I love my 4banger to death but I know it's limitations.....from your original post it sounds like that's not what you're looking for. I say hold out and keep on looking...........it's out there, trust me! And like fireman said, paint is cheap - personally I wouldn't let color sway me, but drive train?????? You KNOW what you want........be patient and keep lookin' around!

BTW.................patience is a VIRTUE!!!!!!!!!!!!

And, it saves a lotta "woulda-shoulda-coulda" in the end.

So, I drove the 4banger with 33s and the 3 inch lift. It had more power than I expected, but it was pretty sloppy. I'm not sure if that was from the tires or what, but I didn't like taking it up to 45 - 50. I passed on it

I did learn that a 4banger with 31s or so may be fine for me. I also noticed that the 3 inch body lift didn't look as bad as I expected. I may do a 1 - 2 inch body lift when I get my new jeep.
