New towing standards for 2013

I was reading an issue of Four Wheeler magazine when came upon an interesting article. Up until now, each truck manufacturer would make their own towing claims based on tests that they create and administer.

Starting in 2013 all new trucks will have to conform to a uniform SAE standard to determine maximum trailer weight ratings. Known as Surface Vehicle Recommended Practice J2807, the new standard will employ a variety of repeatable test methodologies which mandate things like identical trailer frontal areas, axle-load distribution weights and trailer tongue weights among like vehicles.

Finally! maybe now the bragging by the Big 5 full-size truck manufacturer's will be supported by facts...

yup, now all the commercials will be the f250 and 350 carrying a toyota and towing a chevy and dodge, like what happens in the real world
