New Jeep Owner 1994 2.5 L 4 Banger QUESTIONS!!!!!!!

Ok so I have a few questions and I will do my best to describe them the best I can. I will start with the easy one I am missing the temperature guage, but I am not sure what came in the jeep stock and if that is even what is in there now. I say that because they seem to sit a little too far back showing the inside of the cluster. Second there was a small plastic connector for vaccum lines hanging below the radio with two vaccum lines going to it but it has a place for a third but no line. There is a black line and a green line. The black line goes into a T into the intake and the green line goes behind the dash and I can not see where it goes. I wasnt sure where the plastic connector should be attched at first and I finally found where I think in goes right behind the Climate Controls where the button on the end of it can be pushed if it needs to be however that happens. I have pushed the button and the third vaccum sucks air but there is no hose to it so should there be and if so where do I need to run it to? Third I followed the lines and the black one that T's off to the intake also goes over to the battery side and some go under and there is one that has a "valve"? or whatever those connectors are and its just hanging...again no line just hangs there I just noticed it so I am sorry I dont have more info for you just now. Another thing is the jeep is still sluggish after a full tune up,new PCV elbow (was just about totally cloggged), I also had the exhaust changed due to leaks not that I think that matters, anyway still sluggish and smells like it is running rich. I guess that is all for now. I know all of this should be in other forums but I am new to the site and have not had the time to learn everything just yet. I am hoping this is a great tool and I hope that I can give some help to someone else as well.

Welcome to the site bro, the vacume lines may be for engageing your four wheel drive. Not sure how it is set up as far as the interior of the jeep goes, since mine had been retrofitted with a cable to engage the front axles for four wheel drive. In regard to the vacume lines that are over by your battery, one of them should be going down to your axle on the passenger side of the jeep. On the back of the axle on the passenger side is a rectangular box, for which a vacume line should be attached to. Inside that box is a fork that slides a collar on your axle to engage the front axle for 4 wheel drive. Are you able to currently put it in 4 wheel drive? Pictures may help us identify what ya got going on there. Welcome to the site, great bunch of jeepers we got here.

First picture is the vac line near the battery. In that same bundle two go to front axel and four go to the back of the transmission but that one just goes no where. Second picture is the vac "switch" that I think mounts behind the climate controls that had three ports one black line that you see in the third picture and the green line which I can't find where it goes or comes out because it goes behind the dash and that's as far as I've gotten with it. The third port is empty but when the button is pushed it sucks air. Maybe it doesn't need a line but hopefully your more experienced people can help me out thanks

To answer the sluggish question I had the 2.5l 4 banger in my 97 TJ and they are geared well but have no power behind them what so ever.

Well I know they are slow but I have a hard time getting over 55-60 going down hill

Air door motor switch is the thing hanging out from under the dash I finally figured that out but what about it only having two lines running to it?

my 4 banger does fine going on the highway. Im running 31s and i can pull 65 if not 70 on the highway. that is until the D35 popped. lol

The first pic, the vacuum line by the battery, is simply a vent for the vacuum system and it doesn't go anywhere. The 4 vacuum lines that go back to the transfer case are: Vent, Vacuum from intake, and 2 lines to switch the front axle disconnect.

Thanks I was thinking that's all it was due to the fact vacuum line wouldn't even connect to that vent but wanted to be sure. Yeah I don't expect to be racing in the old 4 banger but barely getting 60 downhill just doesn't seem right. I replaced a few vacuum lines that were old and brittle not sure they were bad but the joints and elbows were rotten for sure and I have done a full tune up so I disconnected battery yesterday thinking maybe resetting it might help and not sure if it was my imagination or if it helped but it seemed to and doesn't smell like gas as much but that's probably just in my head. Does anyway know about that third vacuum port on the air door motor switch? Is it supposed to be blank or is it supposed to have a hose going somewhere? Chilton doesn't really say anything about it just showed a picture of it with a name but no lines going to it just said to disconnect them. I got a great deal on this jeep and all together it's a good running jeep just needed a lot of little odds and ends. Only has 130k miles ill post some before pictures and some of where I have her at now se is a work in progress.

Progress so far still have a long way to go. Working on a plexi back windshield and recoating the top. Seat covers are soon to be at the top of the list does anyone have any reviews or opinions on seat covers?
