You're right - they look alot like JK rubicon wheels. I'm a bit surprised though, as he must be running adapters to get them on his XJ

So, I found a set of 5 2018 JL take offs for-sale - complete with brand new BFGoodwrench LT 255/75R17. The guy wants $1000 for these, and I definitely need new tires (mine won't pass another inspection.

1. Do you think this is a good deal?
2. Would running wheel adapters be a bad idea in general? I've never used them before, and they look like a possible weak link.

That is a good deal. What I would worry about is how much spacer is needed and what resulting scrub radius you end up with. The farther away from the wheel bearing you extend the wheel the more pressure being put on the bearing. Then wheel scrub can become so large it creates unstable condition ore excessive wear.
