Can I put a 40 lbs kayak on my 2013 hardtop?

Is it ok to put a kayak on the hardtop with pads under the kayak? Would that little of weight pose a risk for the proper sealing of the freedom panels? Just using cam straps to hold down.

I don’t know what damage may occur without it. But if you google JK with kayak. All have some sort of rack under them,

Seems risky to both the top and the kayaks. A proper rack seems to be the way to go.
