Engine timing help

I have had a CJ7 setting in my garage for 13 years and am finally trying to get it going. It has a 350 chevy . My problem is when I try to set the timing with the distibutor, the vac advance hits the intake manifold. Could the distributor be a tooth off?

You will need to set the timing on the crankshaft at top dead center and re-clock the distributor.

Sometimes I just don't think! After I posted yesterday, I thought about it and all I had to do was move all the plug wires on the cap over one terminal. Hmm presto! Again thanks for the reply
