    axle swap info

A Scout II D44 axle is 58" wide.. and has the same 5x5.5" lug pattern as a CJ.

Heim joints vs. tapered rod ends

I neglected to post earlier that, after recommending TREs for a street driven rig, my current CJ5 is running Heims on a home cobbled high steer setup. Basically, I already had the front D44 setup with high steer arms that I made about 10 years ago. They were already drilled for 3/4" bolts so I...

    shackle reverse???

I did it on my old CJ5.. When I first built the rig, I did a SOA and shackle reversal. I never really had a "baseline" to compare it to but the Jeep did track nicely at highway speed.. even with 35" TSLs. Later, I went to one ton axles and 42" rubber. The reversal worked great offroad too. Never...

Heim joints vs. tapered rod ends

I've run heims on street driven rigs before. They get sloppy quicker than OEM style tie rod ends.. especially if they see alot of grit/dirt/mud. However, heims are probably easier to incorporate into a DIY steering setup since you only have to drill straight holes for the attachment bolts. The...

new member looking for CJ5 parts

Man that didn't take long!! Guy (Soldier buddy of mine) came by the shop this evening and took the seats. He's actually gonna pass the front seats along to another Soldier who needed seats in his CJ. Still have the top and soft CJ5 doors...

new member looking for CJ5 parts

Too bad you weren't a bit closer (I'm in SE Virginia). I've got a brand new fold-n-tumble back seat. It was given to me free.. I'll pass it along free but don't want to hassle shipping it. You'd have to pick it up. I've also got a pair of low-back bucket seats (Bestop... brand new).. same deal...

    727 in a cj?

Should clearance be an issue, you can be creative with the driveshaft. I had a really tight fit in my old CJ5 with a D300 behind a Turbo 350. I ended up grinding some of the case and the edges of the pan. I also used a "long spline" driveshaft with the male spline portion of the shaft passing...

    727 in a cj?

It was a mall crawler. The owner decked it out and as far as I know, it's never been offroad since. :-|

    Will a 80 CJ7 Hood fit on a 85 CJ7?

All CJ hoods from 72-86 will interchange.

    727 in a cj?

I've only messed with one CJ (Scrambler) that was running a 727 (behind a 304). The driveshaft only cleared after we installed a 4" lift on the rig (3" would probably have sufficed). I don't remember the specific clearance amount as it's been about 5 years.

v8 swap !! need help starting a project..

My 1980 CJ5 came from the factory with a GM engine.. Iron Duke 4 popper. Even used the same bellhousing pattern as a SBC. However, I had a mild AMC 360 laying around when I rebuilt the Jeep so that's what I used. When the 360 dies, I'd actually like to do a 454 swap... When you start looking...

    cj5 help needed

    If it's a Turbo 350 bolted to that NP208, you're probably looking at a 6" rear driveshaft... that's a long combo.

    SOA Lift...

I've owned CJ5s with SUA, SOA and Coilover suspensions. I would consider 35"/36" tires as the approx "cutoff point" between the SUA/SOA. Some folks will tell you that it's just a matter of relocating the perches on top of the axles, running a drop pitman arm and you're done... for 1/2 the price...

Tell me about this rear end

You can pull that locker out of that M20 and just install it in your Jeep's axle.. doesn't matter what gear ratio you have as the locker just replaces the spider/side gears inside the ring gear carrier.

    CJ Rollcage in a TJ

Might try the 79-later CJ bars that bolt to the floor behind the front seats.. similar to the YJ/TJ bars.. it might work.
