Should clearance be an issue, you can be creative with the driveshaft. I had a really tight fit in my old CJ5 with a D300 behind a Turbo 350. I ended up grinding some of the case and the edges of the pan. I also used a "long spline" driveshaft with the male spline portion of the shaft passing...

I've only messed with one CJ (Scrambler) that was running a 727 (behind a 304). The driveshaft only cleared after we installed a 4" lift on the rig (3" would probably have sufficed). I don't remember the specific clearance amount as it's been about 5 years.

My 1980 CJ5 came from the factory with a GM engine.. Iron Duke 4 popper. Even used the same bellhousing pattern as a SBC. However, I had a mild AMC 360 laying around when I rebuilt the Jeep so that's what I used. When the 360 dies, I'd actually like to do a 454 swap... When you start looking...

If it's a Turbo 350 bolted to that NP208, you're probably looking at a 6" rear driveshaft... that's a long combo.

I've owned CJ5s with SUA, SOA and Coilover suspensions. I would consider 35"/36" tires as the approx "cutoff point" between the SUA/SOA. Some folks will tell you that it's just a matter of relocating the perches on top of the axles, running a drop pitman arm and you're done... for 1/2 the price...

You can pull that locker out of that M20 and just install it in your Jeep's axle.. doesn't matter what gear ratio you have as the locker just replaces the spider/side gears inside the ring gear carrier.

Might try the 79-later CJ bars that bolt to the floor behind the front seats.. similar to the YJ/TJ bars.. it might work.
