I"ve got a 1991 XJ w/ 4wd (4.0), and I'm trying to diagnose why the backup lights don't come on, I'm trying to locate the switch that activates the lights, any ideas?
I look at the haynes book but its too generic

as soon as I get the jeep back from the dealership I'll reply about the 4wd stuff...
it turns out the booster pump was dead and it was convered under warranty so the dealer replaced it for free (its 3rd time this has happened, the original lasted 10 years, all the replacments last about 1 year...
Another newbie question, I"ve read several reports of when the 4wd lights are working to check the "vacuum" hoses but I just can't find them, does anybody have a picture?
4wd seems to engage somewhat though as the front tires start working

I have a '91 cherokee, 4.0 w/ full & part time 4wd, with the ignition turned over (but not yet started) I can hear a clicking/ticking noise which seems to be coming from the brake booster or the vacuum resovoir, I'm pretty sure its the brake booster but I'm just wondering if anybody has heard...
I have a 91 cherokee, its a 4.0, it has a FULL TIME and PART-TIME 4wd, the manual states part time should be driven in soft sand only, well after some serious driving through mud/water/sand (several feet deep) the 4wd PART-TIME light no longer comes on when shifted into 4pwd (it drives like it...
