Well...no one could answer my question but I'll say what I did. I installed a new fuel pump, spark plugs and so far so good. I also notice the back axel seal were leaking so had to do a complete rear wheel teardown and re-build. Not fun.

My Son was leaving college to drive home when out of the blue after driving for 5-10 minutes his engine died on the highway....he pulled over and called me and we waited about 10 minute. He had tried to turn it over and it was turning but would not catch. Then after letting it sit several more...

Finally an update to this issue, My son had the jeep away at college and came home for the weekend. I checked for the possible un-plugging of the vacuum hose , it hangs down on the drivers side just in front of the firewall, just left of the brake fluid and plugs on to a nipple on the manifold...
