    Jeep quit starting HELP

oil pressure gauge is wacky???? Good news on the fuel. The ignitions a little puzzling though. If I remember right, there is different voltage applied to the coil, one ~ 8 volts during "run", and another at full vultage ~12-14 during start. Mine has since been wired a little different, but I...

    Jeep quit starting HELP

Sorry to put you off so long. I lost track of things. Did you get it all figured out? I don't know what to think. If it was running fine the day before, and your getting fuel right up to the carb, but none is making it to the fuel bowl, then all I can figure is that the needle valve some how...

    Jeep Died - Any Ideas?

One thing to keep in mind is that the reason you get oil coming out that hose is because the pcv sys can't keep up with all the blowby. It typical of older engines, but I think jeeps are a little mor notorious for it. There could be a couple things going on. One, the manifold vacuum may be...

    Jeep Died - Any Ideas?

Oh yeah. Some have suggested just leaving this hose disconnected to keep all that oil out of you aircleaner. It's my honest opinion that that's just a bad idea. It's best to make sure your PCV sytem is fully functional, and there by keeping the whole system sealed. That'll keep dirt/dust out...

    Jeep Died - Any Ideas?

Yep, PCV valve is generally up front. I'd check out that entire PCV system. Blowby and inadequate Crankcase ventilation can be a real killer. Just picture all that sludge and crud building up, plugging your oil passages. From what I've read here and elsewhere on the web, and my personal...

    Jeep quit starting HELP

The Stepper doesn't control fuel flow into the carb. It attemps to control the fuel/air mixture entering the engine, based on load, temperature, etc. At this point it doesn't really matter if the stepper is functioning, the jeep should still start, just wouldn't run well. So I think the...

    Jeep Died - Any Ideas?

Ignition Lock Rack I've done the walk of shame more than once. Don't worry about it, just remember to pick-up the next poor guy you see doing it. I don't think my CJ gauge has ever worked right. I just write the mileage on my gas receipts when I fill-up. And never put in a partial tank full.

    Broke Ignition switch lock cylinder

I busted my ignition lock rack once. What a pain in the ass. I thought I'd have to replace my entire column, cuz the parts guy had no idea what I was talking about. Turns out the part I needed was on a rack in the back of the store, he just had no clue. Go figure. Here's a link to a thread...

    Jeep quit starting HELP

Sounds like a carb problem. The stepper won't completely block fuel passage. In fact the bypass for the stepper actually instructs you to trick it into completely closing and the disconnecting it. Check to see if there is fuel injected into the carb throat when you open the throttle. If you...

Oh Well, the six banger that has 115,000 miles is knocking.

GoOd ByE for now friends. Hey, I had a knock. It wasn't much when it started. I had recently rebuilt the head, lifters, pushrods, rockers, etc. I figured it was a con rod bearing, and that I'd wait for it to get worse. I tried better oil, various additives, etc. I finally pulled the valve...

    lower timing cover gasket leaking

It should have little rubber nubs that pull through small holes in the lip of the oil pan. You also need some oil resistant silicon to seal the ends were it meets the block. I haven't seen the '94 4cyl, but most other engines I've seen have this setup.

    Windshield Frames

Does anyone know if a YJ windshield frame will fit my 84 CJ7? Mines just about to rust off the hinges. I've got a hard to and doors if it makes a difference. The only reason I ask is cuz I see more of them on Ebay and I'd like to keep it on the cheap with a used one. I've heard the tubs are...

I NEED HELP WITH A CARB PROBLEM

Which carb? I would imagine it's an OEM replacement. There's really no way for raw fuel to get to the the throttle plate shaft without something else going on. Is it a significant amount? Sounds like a leaky gasket between the throttle body and main body, or some other leaky gasket. Try...

    258 knocking!! What a surprise!

With a long handled screw driver or chunk of broom handle you can listen to the lifters and rods to really hone in on the one thats clicking (assuming that's the problem). They also make a mechanics stethescope for the same purpose. Go watch "Mr. Hollands Opus" the deaf kid in the movie does...

    New Carb Shopping

I agree with MudderChuck, the Carters from the early '80's (pre '84 anyway) were simple and reliable. The only downfall in my mind is the metering rods. Those things are tedious and tempermental if your not real familiar with them. I think all these carbs would be a good choice. Unless...
