Here is a photo of my new cable and the ebrake system on my jeep.
Looks like there is another spring on the rear cables inside the brake drum. I have not pulled the drum off yet to take a look.
I case this helps anyone else.... I have continued to work on this problem. I discovered there is no spring to assist pedal return included in the under dash assembly. The only return assist comes from the afore mentioned spring on the front cable.

Can anyone tell me a reliable way to identify which model my diff's are??? I just bought a 1975 CJ5. I have ordered a service manual and hope this will at least tell me what the stock diff's were but the Jeep is 45 years old so I'm not sure if anything may have been changed out.
