I own and drive both a 98 and 97. My 97 doesn't have a shock/jolt, the brakes being touchy (lightly press and instant stop) means they are good (If having to press harder than normal to stop then bad), gas pedal has spring on it as well as the throttle body and loose is bad (not just a cable)...

I agree with super but you will also want to check your mass airflow sensor. This is the part on your intake tube between the filter and throttle body, with the wires connected to it.

The hazard flash controller is separate from the regular signal controller but looks the same. It will look similar to a relay just a bit bigger on the fuse panel (owners manual will tell which one it is).
As for windows if all fuse are good then I would check the driver door window control...
4.7 v8 is known for blowing head gasket. While they also make both a 4.7 i6 and 4.7 i8 as well for a total of 3x 4.7L engines. The inline engines are more reliable and have as much as 30% more power/torque.

After reading last post I realized that I had forgotten all about my ecu going out once on both my 98 and 03 models. I think superb may be right on this one.
