    86 CJ7 Heater Core Leak

The original heater core was leaking so I replaced it with a NAPA replacement, no big deal. The Jeep was stored for most of the winter, I took it out once or twice to see how she handled the snow. I went in the other day and noticed a large puddle of anti-freeze on the passenger floor. Did I...

Clutch Pedal soft, no resistance, does not engage clutch

Be sure to check and eliminate the smaller stuff (slave cylinder, linkage, etc) before you dive into the bigger stuff. Crawl under the jeep while someone depresses the clutch and see if the linkage is moving. A slave cylinder is much easier to do yourself than a complete clutch. A clutch is a...

Converting Manual to Power Assist Brakes

Is converting a 1986 CJ7 from manual to power assist brakes as easy as swapping the manual booster for a power assited unit and hooking up a vacuum line? Anything else I need to buy/swap/modify? Thanks

How do I take out a bolt witha broken head ??

Did you look for the bolt protruding out of the floor on the under-side of the vehicle? On my 86 CJ7, the rear seat bolts come through the floor and stick out the bottom of the jeep. Over time the exposed part of the bolt corrodes to the point it will not thread back up through the floor. You...

    What did I miss??

Re: What did I miss?? Rear Main Seal I checked for blow by by pulling the oil fill cap while the jeep was running - not much pressure so I can rule that out. With the amount of oil leaking, I must have missed something big. I either put the top seal in backwards (unlikely since I checked it...

    What did I miss??

I changed the rear mail seal on my 86 CJ7 258. I followed the instructions to the "T". Lots of sealer in the corners. I just took it for a test drive... UGH oil escaping from the rear of the engine under the bell housing... I bought another pan gasket and rear mail seal. What's the trick...

    Need Clutch Help CJ7

Does anyone have the pages from a repair manual they can email me showing clutch replacement for a 1986 CJ7 with a 258 6cyl? I have a book on order however I need to get started asap. I also need anything on rear main seal replacement (bearing cap torque specs, etc). I know these two repairs...

    Rear Seat Restraints CJ7

Thank you for your responses. I took a better look and found 3 threaded holes in the floor behind the rear seat. I assume these are for securing seat belts.

    Rear Seat Restraints CJ7

Did the early to mid-80's CJs come with rear seat belts? I can't seem to find any information on them. Has anyone installed a set? I ordered a pair of "universal" lap belts however I'd like to hear what others have done for ideas on mounting points. Thanks

Clutch Pedal soft, no resistance, does not engage clutch

I know this is an old post but I figured I'd add my 2 cents as it might help future searchers. I had a similar experience with my 86 CJ7 (manual clutch linkage), the trans would shift in and out of gear fine without the engine running, however once you started the engine the clutch would not...
