    5th gear won't stay fixed

sounds like a bad synchro. How long did the repair last?

    CJ Radiator

Rad shops are great it's often cheaper than you think. It's amazing what they can fix. I got a four core brass one for my yj/SBC conversion a couple years back of radiator.com - nobody else had anything but the $500 all aluminum one like 4wdHW carries. It was $250 ish delivered and fit just...

    What's Your Weekend Project?

Like most of us I suppose, I have a long list of minor issues. I fixed an air cleaner housing yesterday to put cold air intake back on the beastie. Next, if it every stops raining, is to POR15 the nerf bars and bumpers. I need to replace the left front ujoint and the muffler. I also need to...

    YJ in -30Celcius

A hard top for winter and full doors will make a big difference and can be had fairly cheap at times (<$500). I don't find my YJ all that cold, but it's never -20 something here and I rarley drive the hiway and it's only for 2 exits (8 miles or so) at a time anyway. Getting the top on tight...

    fast fast jeeps,quartermilebig blocks cjs

I've thought about it but to do it right you're talking lowering it, going to very weird tires (for a Jeep anyway) and it would just be as weird as those 4WD camaros or novas i've seen from time to time. My 90 YJ has a 305 chevy in it and will light up the 31s no problem and can give you a good...

manual or auto whats more fun?

Perhaps it's a regional thing. Back in 89 when I bought my first Jeep (comanche) I was interested in snow plowing and trailer pulling. Auto was recomended for both, but auto jeeps were very rare around here then, but down south i'm told they're common and manuals are hard to find. I ended up...

    Knocking/clicking sound on launch...

It's important to get all the mud off. Mud dries and becomes like sandpaper and will grind up seals on axles, bearings, ujoints, etc. Check your front outer u-joints on the front axle and see what they look like. I had a bad one and it caused a pull to one side.

    Which CJ to buy

the 78 sounds to be a better deal. I always get suspicious when I see all sorts of diffrent tires on a car - why? The only answer I can get is the owner is a cheapskate. Either he can't afford tires or is keeping the 'good' tires and throwing on whatever is round and not leaking - again, being...

Reposting - In a rough spot - need some money

I may be interested in the tires and rims. I'd like to see pics too - so may wheel styles out there!

    passenger side water

Sounds like the drain under the hood on the firewall for the HVAC ductwork is plugged up with debris from sitting out in the rain. Was it parked under trees? This is open to the elements via the vent in front of the windshield. Rain will get in there as will condensed humidity when the AC runs...

    Supercharger vs. Turbocharger

For off road I'd say a supercharger is the way to go for it's increase in torque and no lag or 'boost' effect. But a properly setup turbo might be able to be 'off' when crawling and 'on' on the hiway where you need more oomph. But in both cases you usually lower static compression and that...

Looking for info/advice on stock wheels/tires

I bought a 90 YJ a few years back. It has 2" spring and 1" shackle lift and oversize flares. It had bald 31x9.50 (15 inch rim) 'all terrain' tires. I got 31x10.50 'mudder' type tires and been running them ever since. The current mudders are heavy 6 ply beasties. It's got aftermarket...

    Prof_Fate - 90YJ w/ mods

Not finish it, it's basically done. I could use a 20gal gas tank, a new chevy V8, new tires/rims (stock most likely but i'm still going over options), and a new radio. Simple stuff. Well, OK, the engine isn't perhaps the simplest to some, but I've changed it before so it's not a terrible task...

    classic bone stock cj pics

I've had classic cars in the past and when I tried to move a plate to my wrangler the state rejected it and stated Jeeps (CJ/Wranglers) are not eligible. Perhaps it was just some picky bureaucrat. I could try for the Collectible Vehicle plate I suppose. The objective was to avoid emmissions...

    classic bone stock cj pics

Here in PA most all vehicles are eligible for for classic (15 years old) or antique (25 years) old - as long as they're stock and in good condition. However, Jeeps are specifically excluded. I've seen one military resto job - paint, shovels, the whole 9 yards, and it had an antique plate but...
