I was hoping to just open it up amd clean it but the broken brush holder is the killer. It ripped out of the boatd where it was clamped through so there is two larger holes instead of four small ones

Turns out it is the motor. Corroded solid inside and one of the brush holders broke off the board. New motir is 50 bucks but i am waiting till after christmas and new year to order it.

What is the amount you are allowed for backlash? I am not sure but i think the in and out play (end play?) Looks excessive. If you cam get the nut to tighten anymorr, and it eliminates that in and out, maybe it will also eliminate the whine
