the jeep has stated to jump when it is in gear and it feels like there is no power,all i do is hit neutral and rev the engine and put it back to drive,any one have any ideas f what it could be.thanks

i have a 1997 grand cherokee 4.0l auto.it has started to lose power and drive when i am driving.it seem to jump and miss,i put it in neutrel and blipp the gas pedel and put it back to drive and it is fine until i stop and restart . if any has any ideas very greatful to hear them.:?
