this is an old post. i was ill informed of the axle its actually 3.73 gears and stock trac-lock still a D44a with disc brakes. if your still intersested send me a private message with an offer

do you know what the differences might be?

all i can find is that the 2.5 was used in the following vehicles:

1984–1986 Jeep CJ-7
1983.5–1984 AMC Eagle
1984–2000 Jeep Cherokee (XJ)
...

is it really that much? from what i can tell is its a 5hp and 11 lb-ft increase.

isnt it basically the same engine. im trying to find info on it. i guess i asking if anyone has done this before

what are the differences in these motors?
if i got a 99 Cherokee 4cyl long block would my accessories bolt over from my 2.5 in my yj?

the poor 4cyl. has seized up. some ppl throw some ideas at me. no V8s

most likely a 4cyl unless i can get a 6cyl. (either inline or V) in there for reasonable price. but with 6 i need trans etc....

rear d44a (aluminum) off a 96 grand cherokee. 5x4.5 bolt pattern stock 3.73 gears, stock trac-lock. c-clip.

minus the brake calipers. has 3.73 gears. stock trac-lock. its from a grand cherokee so it has disc. brakes w/ 5x4.5 bolt pattern

having trouble starting battery is not dead, have fuel. just getting clicking noise when try to start it. to get it to start and stay on have to press on the gas. once gas is let off engine shuts...

i have a D44a axle with disc brakes minus the calipers with locker and 4.56 gears that i might not use anymore, so if you're interested let me know

i pick up a used D44a with disc brakes to swap onto my yj. i dont know if im going to use it or not anymore so let me know if you need it.
ask if you have any questions about the axle etc..

i have the same problem. my guess is its the cowl seal. i just run duck tape over the entire seal on rainy days and no water gets in... but if i dont then i get a few inches of water on both driver...
