havent really run into this problem before, but I would think as long as the bearing don't spin inside the housing it would be ok. hard to tell the extent of damage by the pictures though..

do not hammer or bang on the arm or box to remove the pitman arm. you will damage the seal in there and it will start to leak, trust me on that.. use a puller, maybe very light taps. I ruined two...

The engine block shouldn't ever crack from old age. antifreeze freezing in the block would do it, internal engine failure would do it, but I have never heard of it because of old age or high...
