You are correct. After a little research I found it. I always thought that all 44s were non c-clip. I swapped my 44a years ago due to gears being eaten and the true 44 was available for cheaper than new gears.

Your still better off with the 44a than the c clip.

Sounds like a possible fuel issue. Check fuel pressure. Does the engine crank but not start after it dies?

I'd like to see that in a wrangler. Might look into getting one if it did.

Snap a couple of pics of the engine. Preferably of any tags or stamps on the block. I'm sure someone here would know. In my opinion I would bet its the stock motor even if its been replaced.
