pretty much set on getting a TJ

I too never went to college. And I guess I've always been lucky enough to live in places where people respect each other. He is right though. You probably wouldn't want to make your jeep stick out if that's the case.

    What would you do...

Its hard to say exactly what I would really do in a situation like that, but I can honestly say that I would make sure that by the time I was done with them, they would be very, VERY sorry.... im thinking something along the lines of attaching him to the end of my tow rope, driving around the...

Definitely NOT steep mileage for a jeep at all. Those bad boys are still being broken in! Mine has 174,000 and is still rocking. I've seen them still going strong at 435,000 too. As long as they are well maintained, they will last a long, long time.

    Jeep overheats when idle

True, but you never know. Its worth the 6 to 10 bucks to find out. Being a 2001, and in cali, im not too sure how much rust there would be. Either way. Let us know how it goes.

Opinions on this Jeep... It could be my first. '95 with 58k.

Its all personal preference. I know lots of guys with automatics, but, personally, I wouldn't ever want one. There's just too may upsides IMO to having a clutch when wheeling. Antother thing to keep in mind is that replacing a clutch is much cheaper that replacing an auto transmission.... Haha...

You should definitely try adjusting the carb. You're gonna kick yourself if you keep buying new parts, and it turns out to be it was that all along.

    Jeep overheats when idle

Try changing you thermostat. Starting out as simple as possible is the best way to go. Its sounds to me, like when you're moving, its being air cooled, but as soon as you stop, there's nothing going on to cool it down. So anyway, id start there. If that's not the problem, id move on to the...
