As long as your stock wheels & tires are not 18", then yes you can.

Other then sliding the boot as high up as you can, there isn't much you can do that I know of.

I looked up sender units for that jeep ( 87 ). and I came across 5 of them. There's a few questions first. What size tank? 15gal. or 20gal. 2.5 , or 4.0? Fuel injected or carb?

Just looked at mine. The back seat frame is one piece. You can only drop one side or take the whole back seat out.

Try to find a company that insulate pipe. A supply house for industursal AC , ( HVAC ) Though you would need to cut it to fit. Ask for rubatex. You will need to know the OD of the pipe and how thick you want it. They come in 6' lenghts. Also ask for the glue for it. It looks like this...
