No you dont have to remove the center console to remove the carpet. You might have to put it back in though, i dont know, once mine came out it never went back in.

4x6 in the dash is easy on the TJ... might have to get/make some sort of adapter bracket, my cheapo pioneers from walmart are just kinda sitting in there cuz Im to lazy too and they wont fit factory screw holes. But they really arent hard to get to.
