CJ wide track or regular axles

The reason that I was wanting to know was because I have 3 housing's, I think, and I was going to use one of them. I guess as long as the measurement's from end to end are the same I have nothing to worry about. I thought maybe that a wide track might be the same as a narrow but with an offset...

CJ wide track or regular axles

To the best of my knowledge I have never had a wide track axle. I have a model 20 rear end that has a crack in the center section where a ring gear bolt came loose and it also has worn out spring perches. I have a few more housings and was thinking about taking all of the gear's and axle's out...

    AMC 20 / small brakes

I have always had model 20's with the 11x2 brake drum. I got an old cj-5 last year just for the axles and was about to put them on my jeep when I saw that they had the smaller brake drum's. Should I (or could I ) pull the axles out and swap the smaller backing plate for the bigger one and use...

    CJ-7 Soft Top

I think I've been had! First, it didn't have all the hardware, but since it was a best top I figured I could use some mine. Second, after looking it over real good when I got home I found that it's not a best top it's a kayline. None of the windows zip out and the way it attaches to rails is...

    CJ-7 Soft Top

I have a 1978 CJ-7 with a Best top Super top that has served it's purpose for many years. I have been looking for a while for a used top and finally found one. It's a Best top Sunrider with some of the hardware. It will be a few days before I get home to check everything out but what I was...

    Gear Question

How about trying to find a 8.8 out of an explorer? They are a lot stronger than the 35 and will probably have disc brakes. Surely you could find a salvage yard there with one in it. The 30 front is certainly not bulletproof but I have wheeled in some Jeeps with 35's and plenty of 33's and done...

    Gear Question

To do a complete overhaul you need the ring gear, the pinion gear and pinion bearings and seal, carrier bearings and probably a few shims. I don't know if your replacing the axle's too or not but anyway you got to pull them out to change the ring and pinion gears so you might as well change the...

    New to me, Cherokee

I still don't know what year it is, but it's got select trac. It starts at 2h then 4h partime(you have to shift to park then back into gear before itlocks in), 4h fulltime(will go into gear while moving), n, and 4L. It's got some electrical issue's, runs pretty good though and it definately...

    New to me, Cherokee

I've owned Jeep's since '94, but they've always been CJ's or Wrangler's. I'm looking at a mid-nineties Grand Cherokee, I know it's got an inline six but I don't know about the transmission or the x-case. Were they all pretty much like the wrangler x-cases or did they have crazy thing's like auto...

I was just assuming that the jeep in his avatar was the one he was asking about.

    ?73 cj5 extremely rough ride?

Looks to me from yor pic. that you have stock or worn out aftermarket springs with a shackle lift of about 6". First thing, I bet that it's fun to drive down the road. Definetly to much shackle lift in the front. If your wanting to lower the Jeep a bit then go with some factory sized shackle's...

    304, 360, or 401

The 401 is the same block as the smaller motors also! Something I didn't know when I got my 401 was that the Javelin 401 had a little more power than the 401 used in the Cherokee's.

    New body tub

One more question, will TJ fender flares fit a CJ?

    New body tub

I just found a '95 YJ at a junkyard in good shape, $450 for the tub and $100 for the roll bar! I just think that's unreal. A new steel tub is around $3000. Now I just have to round up a bunch of extra parts and have a yard sale.

    New body tub

I've got a '78 CJ-7 and need a new body. I've been out of the Jeep tinkering thing for a while but it seem's like I remember reading that a YJ Wrangler body tub is the same as a CJ-7 tub. Is this correct? If so, do the body mount holes match up or will I have to do some fabricating?

    Dana 30 axle?

I have a '78 CJ-7 with a dana 30/disk brake's. I also have '76(maybe) with drum brakes. The ring and pinion is stripped on the 78 and I was wanting to in the 76. I know the spindle's are different and while looking in a parts catalog it seem's that the inner seals and bearings are different...

    New body

Actually the floor was redone about 20 years ago and is in better shape than the tub!

    New body

I have a 1978 CJ-7, with a 401, t-18, dana 300, 2.5" rancho lift, dana 44's and 33" tires. A buddy owned it before me and done some work on it. It need's a new top and definetly some body work. I've got a good hood and some fender's but I just don't know if it's worth trying to fix the tub. I...
