Argh! What did I do now??

If you have water in there, it will be on the bottom, as oil floats. I would drain it and refil it with proper fluid, You may have a bunch of water at the bottom. It's cheap (under 10 bucks for oil and gasket, I just did mine), so why not play it safe?

    3 speed manual transmission noise

I was under the jeep today (only had it a month), it looks like a new T150, not even dirty. i drained it and got quite a bit of very small shavings in what looked to be pretty new 90weight. The yoke where the transfer case hooks up to the rear drive shaft has some play, and there is evidence...

Hello. I have a 77 jeep cj5 304 with a T150 transmission. Question: I'm getting a rattling noise while coasting in gear with the clutch pushed in. this is the only time I get the noise. I was under the jeep today (only had it a month), it looks like a new T150, not even dirty. i drained it and...

did some more teasting. also getting the noise under same conditions in reverse. i'm thinking you are right, elkman. i have never removed a transmission from a jeep before. I have done regular cars with no problem. is it much tougher since the rear is hooked up to the transfer case? thanx dave

Need help to ID my jeep engine

Thanx The engine is quite strong. It has some aftermarket parts, and I am happy with it. Are you saying that I don't need the year to order any parts for it, nothing changed? What happens if I need to replace engine internals and and I don't know the year of the engine?

Need help to ID my jeep engine

Thanx you for your input. I have the 3-speed, so I assume the T-150. The 304, I would like to know the year, because the horsepower rating is different for the different years. Does anyone have any idea how to determine the year? thanx

    3 speed manual transmission noise

Thanx for your input. I hope you are wrong, Elkman, I was really hoping it was clutch related. If the mainshaft bearings were going bad, should I not hear noise anytime the transmission is turning? If it were the pilot bushing, would I not hear noise when pushing in the clutch? I get no noise...

    3 speed manual transmission noise

I have just bought a 1977 jeep with a 3 speed. I hear a rattling noise, but only under the following circumstances: The clutch is depressed while the vehicle is in gear and coasting. Any other time, there is no funny noise. No noise while accelerating, decelerating, or in neutral, or with the...

Need help to ID my jeep engine

Hello, I have a 1977 CJ5. I know that the engine has been swapped (same size 304 as it came with). How can I determine what transfer case, transmission, engine, and axles I have? I assume they are stock, but can't be sure. I would like to know the gear ratio as well. Are there casting numbers...
