    Backfiring

If it backfired with the magnitude to pop the muffler, i would say that the timing is 180* out, so, timing chain jump? but, a stuck injector can dump excessive amounts of fuel also causing the same problem as the other guys have said. would need more info to be able to help you troubleshoot it...

    96 wrangler body lift install

I'm glad somebody caught that '96 Wrangler besides me. Might have been bought in 96 but its either a 95 left over YJ(square headlights), or a 97 TJ(round headlights). But anyway, I have an 87 YJ with a 3 inch BL, and hate it. lol. (the BL not the Wrangler) I put it on to clear 35's and the body...

    Aftermarket disc brakes

The axle seal is normal "wear and tear" for the mileage, can't expect things to last forever or all of the replacement parts companies would be out of business. I always do the detailing paint whenever i tear something apart. Just shows that you care and take "pride in your ride". Keep up the...

Tried to fix my oil leak today...

When you go to replace those torx bits with a new set, try buying a set for an impact driver, they are hardened to take the abuse from an air impact driver, and i have yet to even scratch the black finish on mine. I do this with all of my "trail" tools. Nothing worse than working on a project...

Tried to fix my oil leak today...

Use a section of pipe that the wrench will slide into, backyard mechanics do this stunt all the time. I use a piece of duct tape to hold the wrench into the pipe, that way when you reach down to the bolt from the top the wrench doest fall out of the pipe(been there done that!..lol)

    Aftermarket disc brakes

RudeDog, you can get what is called a dust cover(not sure who makes them). they fit between your wheels and the brakes in order to keep the brake dust off of your rims, but if you run in the mud, what is a little brake dust?

    Aftermarket disc brakes

The only way to upgrade your brakes to make stopping easier is to get a larger set of brakes which requires larger rotors and calipers. The difference between brake pads standard or ceramic is minimal as far as stopping distances are concerned. ceramic, last longer but you will notice less...

sway bars or no sway bars?

Depending on the inspection laws in your state, I live in Pa. and if it came with it from the factory, it has to be on it and working properly in order to pass inspection. Maybe just buy some swaybar disconnects? Swaybars are used to prevent body roll, and to improve handling at higher speeds. I...

    Basic radio with CD player

I just got a new Pioneer stereo kit from walmart. total with shipping and tax came to 95.37. It came with the stereo/cd player, 1 set of 6"x9" tsx120 speakers, 1 set of 5" round tsx120 speakers. Plus a complete wiring kit. You can't beat it for a Wrangler.

    YJ AX-5 transmission swap

I would bet that your AX15 came out of a Cherokee, since that was the most common application for them. If you have a 1987 YJ then your motor(unless it was changed) is a 4.2L instead of the 4.0. The T-case should be the same, NP231. As the guy said above, the bell housing from a dakota will...

    YJ stumbling

I believe your problem is with a vacuum leak. The 2.5L has a staged vacuum port which means that it doesnt start to draw a good vacuum until it reaches a higher r.p.m.(thus you wouldnt find it by spraying the idling engine) and once your engine is warm, the leak either seals itself or the vac...

    Selecting a CB Radio

Very well said, the coaxial cable that i run has a 24k gold shield in it, and costs $8 per foot. But, well worth the money if you want crystal clear reception. I have been a trucker for over 30 years, and have had all the "big" radios. My little Cobra 29 will out talk and out distance those big...
