    so i got solidworks now...

Using a nice CAD system is about the most fun you can have with a computer. I'm very limited with the 3D stuff as it doesn't really fit my needs, but it's sooo cool. Does it have nice animation?

    Obx

This side of NC might not have as many trails as you're used to, but it sure has some nice scenery and the beachs aren't too bad either. Did you happen to stumble onto any of the nude beaches?.....oh wait, I guess there wouldn't be anyone there this time of year anyway. You really want to obey...

    Looking for metal working tool

Sorry 90Xjay, I forgot today is Saturday. I'll try to find something on Monday.....unless I end up having to go to the shop tommorrow for some reason, but I hope it's Monday;)

anybody want to make a beast?

Oh man Sparky, you've got to be hardcore to drop the hammer in a built '5 on pavement, where you have traction. 13 seconds is very respectable for a Jeep that can still perform offroad duties! As far as the mud Jeeps being fast, drop those things on a set of 33" ATs and you have the makings of...

    Jeep Owners Bible!!

Got several Jeep books. The Jeep Owners Bible by Moses Ludel is something that every Jeep owner should own. He has a different style and outlook to this hobby than the one you see most of the time these days. It's not that the info in that book is really going to help you that much, but it's his...

    Looking for metal working tool

I run across that sort of thing occasionally in flyers that I get from machine liquidators and auction companies. Small manual machines like that are usually cheap from those sources as that's not where they aim to make the most money. I'll get some names of companies that we've dealt with for...

anybody want to make a beast?

There is more to a fast vehicle than just the engine. It requires that the whole vehicle be tuned for what your intended purposes are. Weight reduction is important, as well as sensible gearing. gearing that works for what you want is completely wrong from what you would use to scale a rockface...

    304

You guys are missing the big things here. "Emissions equipment" can involve more than just the bolt ons that you see. The factory camshaft profile, the cylinder heads, the induction, the exhaust.....were all chosen with emissions testing in mind. A stock 304 is weak, but a warmed up 304 by...

anybody want to make a beast?

An 84 CJ? 258? What you're proposing isn't hard at all. I don't have time to go through a big old post right now(like I want to), but I'll get back to you.

    304

The 304 has the same bolt pattern as the six cylinder. I'm not sure what other parts you would use, but the two will bolt together. It won't hold up. It would probably live behind a factory Jeep 304 for a while, maybe. Even a slightly hopped up 304 could tear it up at any time though. Depends...

    old CJ5 transmission ?

Unless you get lucky you're going to pay a premium for a CJ version T-18. That 2wd Ford version is the way to go. You would want to rebuild any old T-18 that you find anyway, so at least reconsider getting the adapter and doing the conversion/rebuild on the one that you have. Just my $.02

    cj spring over?

Rancho used to make a 1" spring lift for CJs that was nice for SOA. They might still make it, I don't know. A little stiffer spring like that is perfect for the SOA. You might consider swapping YJ springs on the front though for the better ride. How big are you wanting to go?

    Junk Yard Turbo?

Invest in a quality nitrous setup. Don't even go down the custom turbo road unless you have a good amount of experience with it or you know someone willing to work with you who does. You can hop up the NA 4.0 enough to stomp on most of the front drive ricers. Also, there is a performance forum...

    2007 Wrangler Preview

If anyone here gets a perk like that, it should be Terry. I also hope Terry has a free subscription to that magazine considering all of the advertising it has gotten on his website.

Cool toy for your kids, or yourself!!

Oh man, One of the guys at the shop has the 1:10 scale one from Wally World. It's pretty neat on the rockpile out back. They can't possibly weigh 40 pounds. The 1:10 one only weighs maybe 5#s. I want to convert one of the big ones over to nitro power. Alot of people are doing that now usnig...

    Thinking about buying a Jeep

Hardtops are somewhat easy to remove by yourself. It might be a little redneck, but it saves your back and top from getting messed up. Mount some eyelets in the roof of the top and you can use a couple of ropes to lift it. All you need is a pulley and a sturdy overhead point to mount it too...

    Starting a jeep project

I agree with starting with a YJ. I'd skip the 44s and run 39s unless you are going to extend the wheelbase a good amount. Same with running a big block engine. A 350hp stroker inline? You won't be happy with that.....not in THAT jeep. Build a smallblock, any will work, but you want a longer...

    Power on the 2.5?

Upper. It's just like any small engine, no torque down low. It won't even get out of it's own way until it hits 3500rpm. I used to launch mine at around 4000rpm when I was racing it. THE most important factor is weight. Strip it down. That's a big compromise for some to make, but that's where...

    Roving Wire Taps?

I read the first few lines of your post and then stopped, so I could post and point out that I wasn't referring to you when I made my post. That better? I was referring to anyone who takes the attitude that it doesn't matter because they aren't doing anything wrong. Now they can be offended, or...
