    Jeep Video's From ORJ enjoy

Nice vids, thanks. I'd love to see that Scrambler make a pass through a good pit with some 39" TSLs on the front. It looks like it would freakin fly!

    ax5 trans

You have a 30RH. The 3 speed auto six cylinder YJs got the 32RH, which is a modern version of the old TF999. So, I would assume that the 30RH is just a newer version of the TF904/909, but I don't know that for sure.

    Stroker Build

Dollar for dollar, you'll make more power with the 360. The 360 has more build potential than the smaller engine too. I love the inline six engines, but the V8 is just a better starting point if you want to make alot of power and aren't willing to bust the bank to do it.

    Jeep pinging problem

What is the noise? A rattle or a ping? Knock....tap....what? I was thinking from the first post that it was just spark knock you were talking about, is this correct? Or is it some other noise?

    1988 comanche

I've been trying to find some info on the swap too. I know the engine will bolt up, but I've got questions about some of the hookups and plumbing. I've got an 88 XJ that I'm planning on swapping an AMC V8 into after Christmas. I'm just going to try and go the cheap route and just swap a factory...

    Touchy throttle when 4x4ing

If you can't get used to it easily, then do like Snitty mentioned and add a spring to it. You can get different ones at the autoparts store.

What Amp of Alt. To get

To be honest, I'm cheap, but.....I just can't justify the prices that some of the companies charge for those high power units. Not when they are relatively easy to swap around or have modified at the rebuild shop. Looks like Bounty has THE answer here.

    What years/models have the 258?

The 232 was a shorter stroke 258. The 232, 258, and 242(4.0) are all from the same engine family, the second gen AMC inline six. Alot of parts will interchange between the different engines. I would assume that any 232 or 258 dipstick and tube would work, not sure about the 4.0. Like already...

    Racing Seats?

If you need the best, then ignore this. I kind of like the cheap old plastic seats for a trail rig. Swapping in a pair of junkyard sourced leather seats out of some little sports car is pretty slick too. Most of them were designed to help hold you in place for the cornering they were planned to do.

    Good transmission replacement for 82 CJ7 258

I can't remember the year thing. I want to say that only 79 got the granny first model......or maybe 79 was the one that got the close ratio.....I don't know. Just make sure you get a T18a from a CJ. Sully, I'm just guessing here, but it seems like you go on alot of long distance wheeling trips...

    shackle inversion

I'll second that. It's a step backwards offroad in any area except high speed stuff like dune running where the landings are much better with one, or anything at higher speeds so the suspension will have more of a chance to soak up the bumps. Alot of people love them on the road though. I'm not...

    Good transmission replacement for 82 CJ7 258

You'll need an adapter for the Tcase. Make sure you get one that you KNOW came out of a CJ, or you might end up with input shaft nightmares. Whether or not it's a good match with the 258 is up to you. For me, it's a crappy conbination. For you, where you do alot of high traction slow speed...

    leafspring tech

I've done that before. You're best bet is to at least fab some stronger and longer spring and shackle mounts, but you could get away with just lowering the factory shackle mounts. Spacers that use the factory mounting holes can be made easily and if you're worried about stability, you can just...

Looking to buy Jeep in Canada: Questions

From a standpoint of wanting to build up a Jeep and keep it a real Jeep, not just a Jeep body on a full custom rig, the YJ is the way to go. It's got a better frame and body than previous models but it still has the proven leaf spring suspension and simple layout of all components. For a more...

    Which TBS should I get?

I'm not convinced that the inner designs of any of the spacers is such a big deal. The companies need a way to distinguish their product from the next guys, and I think that is the main reason for all of the helix and grooved stuff. It's a dry flow log type manifold. The biggest factor with the...

    Vandals Suck

I hate vandalism too. They should have to pay for all damage and inconvenience to the victim and be punished to the full extent of the law. If the vandal is an adult, a beating is in order too. On the other hand, if my stupid little kid was permanently hurt by some boobytrapping hillbilly, some...

    Milage check!!

    99 TJ-- 94,000 02 WJ-- 46,000 88 XJ and 79 CJ5-- Don't know 77 CJ7-- 116,000(that averages out to about 29,000 per engine:lol:)

    Intro

Good luck with your project. I was just a little kid when my biological father died and my mother had to sell his hotrods because she needed money, and to keep my older brother from killing himself in one of them, so I never got a chance to see any of his projects through and it still bothers me...
