    Leaving on a jet plane.....

Good luck man, and thanks. **if the opportunity arises, squeeze off a couple of well aimed rounds for me.

    Family, Political, Wheeling Vid

Oh well. Between the hikers who think they own nature, the campers who demand silence, and the sellout "Tread Lightly" crap, my wheeling spots were closed down over a decade ago. I just can't loose sleep over this when half the people who are crying today are the ones who made me cry back then...

Wrangler steering box in a CJ?

Worst case scenario, you have to marry the two factory shafts. I know don't know what all it involves, but it can't be hard.

Do you keep your Jeep clean?

I just finished waxing my lugnuts like ten minutes ago

ford v8 swap in a cj

That's cool. I didn't know the Jeep T18 bellhousing bolted to any of the Fords. I thought you had to use a ford bellhousing. Learn something new everyday I guess! I wouldn't mind Ford power in a CJ. I helped(very little) put one in a CJ one time, but it was a whole drivetrain conversion. I'm...

    NHTSA new Roof Strength Rules

The bars that come in our Jeeps aren't rollbars and never have been. It makes you feel a little better, but don't ever rely on it to save your butt in a nasty rollover. It could be built on the best machines in the word, welded by the best welder in the world, and constructed from the highest...

    Booty FAB!!!

That is one sweet rig..... I bet beforehand all his buddies said "Yeah man, a multilink setup is the fawkin bomb. You'd be the man dude" and simply left it at that. Some people shouldn't be encouraged to EVER fab ANYTHING.

U joints & yokes - Does the yoke go bad?

I've always had problems with the strap style yokes. The little bolts get loose and allow it to fug up, or the strap simply rips in half around the bolt head. If you need to replace the yokes, and it sounds like you do, then get the u-bolt type. A Ubolt retaining the Ujoint cup is soooo much...

    Driveshaft

Most people go straight for a SYE with 4" of lift. It's not a bad idea to just go ahead and do one with that much lift either, but it can be avoided in most cases. The 1" of shackle lift isn't going to require any Dshaft mods, but when you combine it with that 4" suspension lift.....I'd plan on...

ford v8 swap in a cj

A Ford engine will bolt to your transmission using a Ford bellhousing from a Ford vehicle that used that transmission with a Ford V8 from the same engine family that your 302 belongs to. The Windsor bolt pattern. By "engine family", I'm talking about one of Fords more stupid ideas. They don't...

    Question about shock lengths

exactly what you are thinking. just get it twisted up until you lift a tire. I'm lazy and just use the forklift if I'm at the shop.

    Question about shock lengths

And to add another point, you never want your shocks limiting travel in any direction. If you're bottoming out shocks, extend the bumstops---If the problem is overextension, then get some limiting straps.......or different shocks. You can relocate shock mounts fairly easily too.

    Question about shock lengths

Remove the shocks and cycle your suspension. Take measurements at both extremes, fully compressed and fully extended, and you will have a better idea of what you need. I'd worry more about not limiting the droop. You can compensate for a longer collapsed length with bumstops if needed. You...

    Buying a YJ, advice wanted.

I ran a 2.5L YJ for years and I outran some sixes with it and a few V8s too, so I'm not bashing on them here, but..... To say power isn't important until back on the road is just so wrong. There is only so much you can do with gearing and you will see deminishing returns quickly if you overgear...

What all is involved in an 88YJ axle swap???

There is always the XJ/MJ rear D44, but good luck finding one. A Ford 8.8" from one of their late model small sized trucks is a good choice too. Some interesting swaps are to use a Scout II or SJ Jeep D44 with some aluminum spacers/adapters to make it match the front D30 in lug pattern. They...

    AMC 20 Axle Woes

Well, there is one that will bolt up and match the current width. The 72-73(?) Commando rear D44 is a direct swap for the centered 76-81 CJ. All others will require moving the perches. The most common one is the 72-75 CJ D44 and it only requires the perch relocation to work. It has a centered...

    Help!

Raptor, that is a fairly common problem for the 93 model from what I've heard. My YJ was a 93 model and I ran into the same thing. I just always told the parts person that I had a 94 after it happened a couple of times.

    Big Box Mart

Walmart sucks more than a five dollar hooker. I don't go there if there's ANY way of avoiding it, and I fuss when the wife does. If you like it, then fine. Go there and enjoy the savings. I've been told by several people that my views are crazy regarding this, and I don't even argue anymore...

Hummer is coming after the Jeep

On the other hand, it might force Jeep to make some much needed changes. GM isn't afraid to stuff some power between the fenders, and that will be a big comparison point. The weak drivetrain components that Jeep has been so willing to stick us with for so long will soon be coming into question...
