    do an engine conversion

Well I understand how throttle body works.. If we were able to totally get rid of the computer! this would be happening on a daily basis. I admitt you can limit the need for it but it is not able to be removed completely. The injectors need some kind of small electrical impulse to squirt. So...

How do you plan on getting rid of the computer!! especially the throttle body! what carb you going with???? I am just really wondering what the plan is?

A Jeep pickup T18 used a T15 bellhousing and a adapter with a long input shaft trany.....This allowed them to keep the transfer and crossmember in the same location so drivelines were universal from stick shift to automatics!! Almost all truck 4 speeds were 4-1 not 6-1.. CJ version used NO...

    VIN on old CJs

The EarlyCJ5.com forum has all that info.. That must be a tight fit with the inline 6... Those should both be 4 bangers..

CJ5 Full Width Axle Leaf Springs?

I know you are asking about springs here! but are you really going to use the 78 cj5 frame and extend it out front and rear? If you are hanging full width axles and probably a V8 on that frame you are asking for frame problems.. Toooo much weight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You should think about...

Easiest way to be sure of ratio is to clock it.. if its out of rig! put trany in first gear and transfer in 2 hi and turn the output of transfer by hand! for one revolution on output shaft --the input should turn 6 times 6-1 thats trhe easiest! That is a great setup.. if you really want to...

    82 CJ8 stalling out at 35 mpg

You are probably on the right course but here is a couple things to double check! This could be vaccume issues and possibly timing also.. Is it a mechanical or electric fuel pump? Is the distributor a HEI? if so 8 is not far enough advanced for aftermarket dist.. go to 12..and make sure you...

    Il-6 upgrade

I have seen this done a few times.. personally I would not do a inline six if I was going for newer engine.. I would put chevy 4.3 in.. The Chevy TBI is real easy to hookup! A couple of things about your reasons for a new engine! You said power steering and power brakes!! YOu can put this...

You wont have any issues with a used T18.. those are truck tranys! The shifters are sloppy and shift like an old truck. Make sure you get a 6-1 ratio and not a 4-1.. That would be a great setup and a bell housing would complete the setup..

    Cracked block ? 84CJ7

I have been around a lot of 258's.. The only problem I have had is cams.. they are known for flattening them.. I have actually had guys on trail run bust their radiators and run their engine dry, shutting it down from time to time and making it out of the mountains.. the next weekend they fixed...

A couple things to think about! 1) a adapter to the 3 speed bell will cost more than a correct bellhousing! 2) if you use the 3 speed bell you will be adding a lot of length to the drivetrain and the rear driveline will be real short! a 4 speed is longer than a three speed plus you will...

    cj5 lift

Call Tom Woods on your shafts when you get that far.. they should be the last thing to go in.. make sure all the weight is on the rig when you measure them! It will be a custom length depending on how your rig is setup.. I say stay SUA especially if you are using narrow springs. I would not...

A 4 speed will give you a low first gear! 2nd gear will be about were the 3 speed first is now! 4th gear is one-one just like the 3 speed in 3rd gear! SO you keep your road ability but drop down for slow crawling! You will really like the swap.......

It will not bolt up! A 73 3speed is either a T14 behind the six or a T15 behind the V8.. Either way you need to change the bell housing.. a T18/19/sm420 is Ford or a SM465 is chevy.. my experience is to use a Ford because of its size! I put a T19 out of a Ford bronco 85' in my 74.. YOu wil...

    Cracked block ? 84CJ7

Is this the 4 cyl or the 6 cyl engine?? And what transmission! I say don't waste your time with a jeep engine replacement! If its the 4 cyl? then its what is called a "Iron Duke" and has a Chev V8 bell housing bolt pattern.. very easy swap! you will need the flywheel and 4 cyl clutch parts! If...

Ford guy with a Jeep needs some guidance.

I am not sure about were you are at! In Wash these rigs are all over the place.. not as much aftermarket support for body parts! So is this a automatic with the quadra trac? If it is a V8 it should be a 360 or 401.. both are good engines and easily swapable to a Ford or Chevy V8? Diffs can be...
