    TJ 4.0 Gas mileage

jay79cj7, I don't have any lift on my jeep. I do rub the fender flares in flex situations. In fact the fender flares have been "naturally trimmed" by the tires. I did not put these tires on the Jeep. They were on it when I bought it. Without a lift the largest that I would have put on it...

    TJ 4.0 Gas mileage

Jeepmaster, If you get 220 to 240 miles per fill up....and each fill up is approximately 16 gallons....that equals between 13.75 and 15.0 mpg. I currently get 14.0 in the city in my 83 CJ7. I was hoping that that would improve with a new Jeep.

    TJ 4.0 Gas mileage

I plan on buying a Rubicon when my wife graduates from nursing school in ten months. I know the window sticker states that they get 16mpg city and 19mpg hwy. Does anyone with a 4.0 TJ know what gas mileage they are getting from their Jeep?

    Is the Unlimited worth Buying?

Jeep lists the towing capacity of the Unlimited at 3500 lbs vs 2000 lbs for all other Jeep Wranglers with the 4.0 in them. From what I know, it's all about safety. The limit of 2000 on a regular Wrangler is based on the safety factor due to it's short wheel base. On a personal note....I...

vibration when in 4wd on cj7

I like MOngo's line of thinking....I was also thinking front driveshaft. Sometimes they can get bent and cause from a little to a lot of vibration in the front end.

    Sealing up distributor...do I need a vent?

I like to make mods on my Jeep based on previous trips. It appears that during water crossings my distributor always gets wet and kills my power. I do not think that I am even submerging the distributor. What I wanted to do is put some silicone around the base of the distributor cap to seal...

    Three Core Radiator is in!

Tug I actually found a new one for $116 from a local company. Not real cheap, but during the summer if I drove over 60mph it would over heat. I also could not run the AC in stop and go traffic. Did you have fan clutch clearance problems?

    Three Core Radiator is in!

I got my 3 core radiator in this weekend. I had some clearance problems with the fan clutch. I swapped out with a mid 90s Chevy small block fan clutch and that gained me about 1/4". Now once summer gets here I'll be able to run the AC and drive over 60 mph.

    OT: Bow Hunters

I love to bow hunt. I now shoot a recurve and don't keep up with the compound market as well as I used to. I have heard good things about the new Bear bows. When I was a compound shooter I shot a Mathews but they tend to be a little more expensive.

    Your favorite Non Comercial Mod's.

For me, it would have to be adding two miles of weather strippng to keep the cool in during the summer and the cool out during the winter. I want to do a thumb throttle. Has anyone ever seen any instructions for a thumb throttle on a CJ?

    Shackle movement?

Thanks Bounty. You bring a good point about the bushings. When I add the lift (once my wife finished nursing school) I'll check all the shackle bushings and replace if needed (read most likely replace).

    Shackle movement?

I noticed something and am not sure if it is normal. If I am stopped and turn the wheels from one side to the other, the shackles move from left to right some. Is this normal?

    New Axles!

O2 sensor?? I need some altitude before I can add bigger meats. In all honesty, I'll probably never go any bigger than the 32s. I use my Jeep as a daily driver and drive it to hunt. Some places I hunt are as far away as 500 miles. Because of all that, I like to keep the drivabilaty as good...

    New Axles!

I installed my new Superior one piece axles last night. The install went smooth. It would have been difficult if I had done it in my garage. My brother-in-law works at a drive line shop (driveshafts, CVs, and rear ends) and has all the cool tools/toys. We had to machine a bearing spacer down...

    Hunters!

I agree that some bowhunters are irresponsible. The same can be said for some gun hunters as well. I, like lankchevy, practice with my bow a lot. I shoot 3D quite a bit during the spring and summer as well. For those of you who do not know what 3D is, it is where they will go out in the...

    Hunters!

Here are some pictures from last year: A doe I killed on opening weekend of bow season with my recurve: The buck I killed with my rifle in November: The turkey I killed with my recurve in January: If you want to see all of my 2002 hunting pictures, you can see them here...

    Hunters!

I hunt (I bet you never would have guessed that). I bowhunt mostly. Occasionally I'll break out the 7mag. I hunt deer, turkey, hogs, some dove, and some duck. My favorite is bowhunting for deer and turkey. I have only got one day in the woods this year and will probably only get a few more...
