I was thinking that the 1 piece axles was the solution. What happens when this gives way? Are we talking the rear wheel falling off while driving, or are we talking the wheel/hub spinning on the axle.

Sounds like your idle air mixture is off. Try adjusting it using a vacuum gauge. Lean it out until the vacuum start to drop and then open it back up 1/4 turn. That 500cfm carb is far more than you will ever need. You might consider returning it for the 400cfm model.

Clifford headers, any good? I still have not decided exactly what I will do. I will probably put the radiator in and work from there. My fan clutch actually sticks out further than the blades themselves. I might go flex....I might go electric....I might be able to make this clutch or another...

I did the carb swap from the stock Carter BBD to a Holley 350 cfm two barrell. I had rebuilt the Carter, but was still not happy with it. It would load up and stumble on climbs. The idle was also bad (some days it would die at idle). It had a surge below 1100rpm and another surge around...

The PCV valve is new. I'll try the swap theory and see how it goes.

I'll look at swapping the PCV (which is currently connected to a manifold vacuum source) to the front of the engine and see if that makes a difference.

I have a question about my 83 CJ. Whoever had it before me had removed a lot of the vacuum lines, air cleaner, etc. My jeep has a PCV system in the back of the valve cover and one of those K&N breathers in the front. Over time oil will get soaked up into the breather and it will leak out...
