Working on the Jeep this weekend

Yes, I still have the stock intake. My goal was not to increase power, although it appears that I have. My goal was drivablilaty. My idle was so bad, and the carb had a dead spot at around 2000 rpm as well as surging at certain speeds and loads. The Carter was a hunk of junk. I think an...

Working on the Jeep this weekend

I worked on the Jeep until 1:00am Friday and then until noon on Saturday to get the Holley 350cfm and air/fuel gauge on. It is AWESOME! It runs so much better than the Carter. I looked down a few times at the tach to see if it was still running because it idles so smooth. I'm still working...

    Electric or Flex fan

Bounty, Tell me more about this alternator rebuild/replacement. Where do I get the rebuild kit? What model cars can I get a better donor alternator from? This might be a two step process....radiator and flex fan now......electric fan and alternator replace/rebuild later.

    Electric or Flex fan

One concern with the electric fan is that at this point my alternator is just barely adequate in my opinion. With my AC and headlights on I am getting a little less that 13 volts at my guage. To me that means that I am just keeping up with the need and putting very little into the battery. I...

Minimum clearance between radiator and fan cluth

Electric or Flex fan What are those little fins on the front of the fan clutch for. Could I machine those off? That would give me an additional 1/4".

    Electric or Flex fan

I posted another thread about having little clearance between the fan clutch and the radiator. If I cannot get adequate clearance I will go to a flex fan or electric fan. What are the pros and cons? How expensive is an electric fan? What is involved in installing one? I'm just trying to...

Minimum clearance between radiator and fan cluth

What would you say is the minimum clearance between the radiator and the fan clutch? I bought a new 3 core radiator and it appears that it is going to be very close to the fan clutch. Do any of you have any suggestions on how to move it back?

Working on the Jeep this weekend

I'll be turning wrenches tomorrow night and Saturday. In another thread I talked about buying a new Holley 350cfm carb. Today I bought a new radiator, uppper and lower hoses, and a thermostat. I have a problem with my jeep running hot with the AC above 65 mph and while driving in stop and go...

    Another Stall Out/Idling Question

Try this: http://www.jeepz.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Howto&file=engine_carbfix It helped me. The only problem is that I have to do it about once every week or two. That is why I will be putting on a Holley 350cfm carb tomorrow night.

    cold inside & out

Get a test light and see if you are getting voltage at the blower motor or not. If you are not getting voltage at the blower motor, then it is the switch, wiring, fuse, etc. If you get voltage at the blower motor and the motor is not turning, then it is the blower motor. Find out if you are...

    Heater Hose Valve?

He is saying that it is taking a long time to warm up to operating temperature. He wants to add one of these valves to help it get to operating temperature faster.

    Heater Hose Valve?

My uncle has a 1982 CJ7 and just completed a 4.3 TBI & 700R4 conversion. It's pretty sweet. He said that on his 4.2 he had some type of valve that kept the coolant from running through the heater core until the motor was up to temp. I looked at my 83 CJ7 and I have nothing like that. All my...

A new Holley is on the way!

I'm going to check that out. My uncle took his to New Mexico hunting and had it at some pretty good angles in the mountains and told me that it performed far better than the Carter.

A new Holley is on the way!

I have finally had all I can take from the Carter BBD carb. I am tired of adjusting it and/or cleaning parts every week to keep it running. It has to go! I know that a Webber conversion is the popular thing to do, but I know nothing about Webber carbs. I used to drag race and a Holley is...

To down shift...or not to down shift?

Do you guys down shift when decelerating. I have always let the engine get down to around 1000 rmp in 4th then a little clucth and send it to third and then let third get down to around 1000 rmp. On another thread someone posted that they did not like down shifting because it is hard on the...

TJ Lift Question I looked at mine again and I do not have a spring on the brake pedal. I do have power brakes, I wonder if that makes a differnece?

    Help! Name this busted part...

That's it. I just looked at mine again and it looks almost identical to that.

    Help! Name this busted part...

And no, you will probably not notice any difference since the clutch pressure plate will push the clutch back.
