    Proud parents!!

Our son Willie's MOS is 25B (Information Systems Operator - Analyst). The description sounds a bit like a computer system engineer. Communications, GPS, targeting are all computer aided any more. Sure seems a far cry from range and windage, huh? Ryann, our daughter ... yeah, I know it's a...

    Proud parents!!

Our son was picked up by his recruiter this afternoon, about 3:45PM, and taken to the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) where he will be sworn in and leave for Army Basic Training Wednesday morning. Our daughter spent today at the MEPS being processed and will leave for Navy Recruit...

    Sky-Pod install in YJ

The Sky-Pod is stationary and the mirror is at its highest adjustment in the photos. I sit pretty "tall in the saddle" (long body) and it does cover the top 1/4th of the mirror ... but my son, who is 3" shorter than me, has no coverage at all. The side view mirrors are about all I use anyway...

    Sky-Pod install in YJ

The Sky-Pod is made by Select Increments ... http://www.selectincrements.com/ ... but this was purchased at Quadratec ... http://www.quadratec.com/products/14136_600.htm . Couldn't beat the price after shopping around, at least not by enough to go elsewhere. You can also get the Sky-Pod with...

    Sky-Pod install in YJ

Here are some pics of the completed Sky-Pod installation. The Sky-Pod mounts in the threaded holes once occupied by the footman strap between the mirrors. I ran the speaker wires in 3/8" plastic flex tubing and tie-wrapped to "stick-on" nylon bases.

    YJ Universal Joints

Oh, and the Federal Mogul part number for the greaseable u-joint is 280. I replaced all 4 u-joints on my rig before my vacation last September. Hope that helps.

    YJ Universal Joints

From '87 to '94.5, the rear diff yoke was a Spicer #2-4-6901-1x and used a 1310 u-joint, 3 7/32" cap-to-cap. Do yourself a favor and go with the greaseable.

    Channel 24

    OK ... now I KNOW I need a 40-channel!

Is 23-channel CB radio still viable?

Getting ready to install a CB in the YJ. I have an old 23-channel Midland that I used years ago when CBs were a real craze (mid-70's) and it served me well. In fact it was tuned up, tweeked and had a powermike for a clear, clean signal. The question becomes, should I look to get a 40-channel...

    YJ stereo/in-dash speaker install completed!

Actually, this project didn't require any band-aids which is usually a concern for me as a blood offering is required for proper project completion. Chalk that up to loosening up the dash, etc. I DID walk into my bicycle (hanging from the garage ceiling) which created the need for an exercise...

    YJ stereo/in-dash speaker install completed!

WOW ... that is a great write-up! And don't apologize for plugging your employer. I work for Apple and don't miss many opportunities, either. I will get some pics taken and uploaded after the weather clears up. You make a great point about speaker placement being critical. With the in-dash...

    YJ stereo/in-dash speaker install completed!

Well, I finally got the project completed after purchasing and installing a new Kenwood 50x4 in-dash tuner/CD, 2-Infinity 4"x6" two-way speakers (in-dash) and 2 matching Infinity two-way 4" speakers (in a Sky-Pod). Some observations: 1 - The whole "speaker-in-the-dash" thing was not at all as...

    removing t-case skid

That puts a lot of stress on the motor mounts ... just put a jackstand under the output housing on the xfer case. It doesn't take that long to set up and won't get in the way.

    YJ dash speakers

Trust me, I've read all the really informative threads on this topic but have one follow-up question ... A couple of years ago, Currupt4130 and Snitty mentioned cutting out the dash around the speakers for easier/convenient access. Did either of you, or anyone else, actually perform this...

More and more I realize that surfing is much more than a sport

I really don't know what to say after watching this video ... there are tears in my eyes (I can barely type) as my dad is a quad due to an illness over 20 years ago. One thing, it seems, that folks who go on to do these kinds of activities have in common ... they never ask "why me?" They just...

    Stock YJ front bumper??

I have a front bumper from my 1993 YJ ... has a very slight tweek. However, as I am on the west coast and you are on the east the shipping may cost the same as a bumper from a wrecking yard. Let me know.

synthetic in a high mileage YJ

I started runing synthetic in my 1993 4.0L YJ at 153,000 miles ... it now has almost 157,000. Emmissions improved, gas mileage went up (1/2MPG) and engine runs about 10*F cooler. And it doesn't leak any more on any less! I also went to the synthetic ATF. Shifts smoother but firmer ... if...

    Clean dat baby out!

OUCH!! Sparky-Watts ... 30 years ago OLD-TIMERS?! 30 years ago I was 19 and working in a service station learning the ropes. Managed them for a couple of years when there was more vacuum hoses connecting sensors than you could follow. I guess that makes ME an old-timer. Here was...

Can Ya Give Up a Little Prayer?

Not sheltered ... just different. Pray BIG TIME for the brothers. Something took place that hardened their hearts and they need to give it up. BTW, if you find yourself awake at night unable to sleep, give it to the Lord to handle ... he was going to be up anyway.

    general tire question

I've done a fair amount of 4-wheelin' with this rig since picking it up and getting it "trail ready" ... posted some pics last fall after doing the eastern 3 miles of the Rubicon (granite stones the size of your head covered the trail for the last ~2 miles!), and a couple of other neat sections...
