    YJ trans torque arm

While replacing the transmission mount yesterday, I found the torque arm had been bent badly (probably during a low clearance hit). The replacement bushings had already been purchased but the REAL question is ... is that torque arm really neccessary? If it is, then I'll go to the local...

    yj rough running HELP!!!!!

A couple of thoughts ... 1 - Can you get a comparison on fuel mileage before and after the issue began? A fuel float may be out of adjustment or heavy and you are actually running rich. While running, look for black smoke and check the tailpipe for that characteristic black, chalky fuel...

    help a little girl?

Not sure about the TJ, but my YJ had a similar issue with the instruments (tach, speedo, odo, fuel, oil, temp) dropping to zero and the panel lights going out, then on, then out, etc. Seemed the bumpier the road the less prone the issue. Checked the good old FSM to see if there were any common...

    The project begins!

The parts are showing up, the garage is clean and it is time to begin the maintenance, updating and upgrading. The transmission was O/H about 30K miles ago and the 4.0L engine is as strong as ever. With 13 years and 150K miles on the clock, here's what is in store: new cab/body mounts...

    Vibe problems.

One other thing ... if your u-joints were replaced last week, is your mechanic (you?) certain the driveshaft went back in the way it came out? It used to be drivelines were balanced from the output shaft in the transmission (not sure about xfer cases) clear to the yoke of the differential. We...

    Vibe problems.

Just a thought, as I am not a Jeep expert but have some experience in general automotive. If it vibrates during accelleration or at a higher road/engine speed, think torque reaction. Motor mounts, transmission mounts or u-joints. If under significant accelleration, it could also be rear axle...

    Is regearing necessary?

For the day-to-day I was figuring the oversize tires would be roughly akin to a 15% overdrive, and that would be about right for that kind of application. This Jeep does not spend much time around town. The freeway is 1 mile from my house so miles would be freeway and off-road. My concern was...

    Is regearing necessary?

Originally my YJ was equipped with 205x75/15 tires and the previous owner replaced those with 235x75/15. The 205 were ~27" in diameter while the 235 is ~29". Now, I am wanting to go with 31x10.5/15. That works out to an overall increase of ~15% in diameter from that which was OE. Is this too...

    Where to buy Jeep parts

Now it is known what I need to get to get my Jeep in shape ... the next step is purchasing all those inserts, covers, bushings, mounts, springs, etc. Where does one go? I get catalogs and see on-line stores with prices so close to each other on identical products you could throw a blanket over...

    how's a 1991 4.0 Auto geared?

Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. Mine is confirmed at 3.07. I suppose they went real small BECAUSE it was the auto

Same thing has happened to me a couple of times. However, when I clicked on the "forums" menu at the top they came right up.

    on-board air

Let's try this again with my eyes open. Here is the link to a good looking OBA conversion ... http://www.visi.com/~bsimon/jeep/my_air.html

    NP 231 parts and driveshafts

You wouldn't happen to have a SYE in good condition in all that treasure, would you?

    on-board air

Here's a link I found while researching OBA for my rig. Looks complete to my semi-electrical/mechanical eyes. This is the setup I plan to try after replacing all my suspension and cab bushings.

    checking for sagging springs

Thanks for all the replys. No, Bounty Hunter, there does not appear to be a negative arch ... but very flat. Most research I've done has indicated not to expect much arch and the flatter, the better flexing. That was why I was so surprised to see such a small amount of upward movement...

    checking for sagging springs

While under the Jeep today, I noticed there was only 1" clearance between the front axle and the front bumpstops. There had been a lot of contact as the axle directly below the bumpstop was pretty clean. Now pavement is not that rough around here so it begs the question ... are the springs...
