Four Wheel Drive & Oil LEak

1056506 To understand how the system works might help to repair it. On the dash is a light that tells you when you are in 4wd. Under the battery (Passenger side) is a vacuum operated switch for the 4wd light (One wire to ground the other to the dash 4wd light). The shift motor is where all of...

Four Wheel Drive & Oil LEak

1056507 Here is an old post I wrote that might help: Regarding oil in the air cleaner. I have been reading this same topic from forum to forum. Everything from removing valve covers to rebuilding motors because of warn or broken parts. Here is a suggestion from a Jeeper that had and fixed that...

    horn wont work

1056515 It's been a long time since I played with my horn wiring, but this might help to understand how it works and then repair. The horn is bolted to the body, which grounds the horn unit. The horn has a connection that goes to the 12v relay. The relay has one wire going to the horn, one...

    Dash Bulb covers?

1056518 carriss: There are many grounds. Tracking down wire problems is next to impossible without being there. Find a manual at your local parts store with a wiring diagram included. If you don't understand it, ask for help. Wiring is not hard, just a pain in the butt. I have found most...

    Dash Bulb covers?

1056519 As JP said, those rubber covers are diffusers to reduce glare and add color. I have seen Jeepers remove the diffusers, dip the bulbs in ceramic dye to change the color (Blue, red, green)(It works just.... ok) Also for those with a lot of time, replace the bulbs with different colored...

    door handles

1056523 Both doors at the same time is rare. You have two possibilities. Both door handles are broke (Not likely) or the linkage inside the doors came loose or maybe damaged.(Usually loose) You can remove the inside door panels, it is easy to do, and inside you will see how the door lock...

    horn wont work

1056524 Back in the late 60's I had a airhorn from a Mac Truck on my Volkswagen. Getting attention wasn't a problem. but, everytime I hit the horn, it used so much vacuum, my car cut out. Those were the days :-D [addsig]

    New Bestop Seats in YJ

1056528 I don't have any input on the seats. I do have 5 inches of lift and much larger tires than stock without any center of gravity issues. I think with myself and the tens of thousands of other Jeepers in this same height situation, without problems, I wouldn't worry too much.[addsig]

    Cracked exhaust manifold

1056683 Figure all of the stress, money, time, gas, traveling, putties, sealers, and welding to fix a crack that just can't be fixed properly,is expensive in itself. And if you do some how seal the crack, in time it will crack again. STOP! Install a new manifold, or better and cheaper...

    Cracked exhaust manifold

1056687 Note: Replacing it with a used manifold is also a waste of time and money. It is already close to cracking due to age and milage.(and it will) If you don't crack it putting it in. It takes the same time to install new parts as old, and more time to do it again.[addsig]

    tire situation

1056785 Rubbing: The rubbing will be largely determined by the back spacing of the wheels, and the amount of articulation you get. The amount of articulation with or without disconnecting the track and swaybars. If you are just street or even dirt road traveling you might be ok. Offroad in the...

    tire situation

1056786 Note: The best way to check your Jeep out before trail damage is done is to find a club in your area with a ramp, use it and see what you need, or find a big rock or wall and test away. It's cheaper and less pain to fix it first. 8-) [addsig]

    LED Taillights???

1057315 Several of the Jeepers around here have installed the L.E.D.'s and they are brighter, flush mount and look cool, But I'm not sure if it is worth the money. First, they are only taillights. You now have to mount another set for turn signals? A third for back up lights? And a fourth for...

TO WELD R NOT TO WELD

1057785 My .02: Most name brand parts out there today have been R&D'd enough to fit and work properly. I'm not saying all are good, but they usually work just fine. If you are having knocking, banging, hitting, or any other of those annoying "ing's" check out the install or for possibly...

    Play in steering

1057789 ejdjeep: Do you have a lift on your YJ? Possibility: Have someone turn the steering back and forth while you look under the front where the short steering arm (steering box/pitman arm to tie rod) connects to the tie rod (long arm that goes from wheel to wheel) The tie rod can rotate...

    Tread Life

1057859 A little input: I am not one to blast a product and will only comment if I have first hand experience, with that being said. My partner and I had several long discussions about tires. Using them for 80% on road (Dry, wet and snow) and 25% off road (Rock crawling and desert sand) we...
