    Bad Thermostat?

Today I installed a new 195*F thermostat in the YJ, and all is well again with the engine temperature. :D Thanks for the added info, guys!

Dana 30 Axle Seals - replacement

That's not a bad idea using a dowel rod, I may use that method. Anybody else have any additional tips? A concern I have is when I go to put the axle shafts back in... how can I make sure not to tear or damage the new seals?

    Bad Thermostat?

So after doing some research on the 'net (my FSM is at my sister's place in PA), I found that the 4.0L 6 cyl. should have an operating temperature at or near 210 degrees Fahrenheit. Now it's off to the auto parts store for a 195 degree F thermostat!

Dana 30 Axle Seals - replacement

So the YJ has bad axle seals in the front (Dana 30 w/ vacuum 4wd disconnect). I've read some online write-ups on how to replace them using some threaded rod, large washers and/or large sockets, mallets, and other various hand tools. I have the new seals (have had them for some time), but never...

    Bad Thermostat?

So my YJ (Project Salt) is finally back in my possession after a few months of it being garaged (in another state, nonetheless). What I'm noticing now is the engine temperature gauge tops out around 150 degrees F. If I remember correctly, it used to be closer to 200 F. Last year the whole...

    shifter

I can't remember exactly how I took mine off, but I remember using PB Blaster and perhaps some hand tools. Either way, it was a bear to remove, and the rubber was cracked - likely due to age. Just be prepared to put in a good amount of time and muscle getting the shifter shaft removed.

    Wrangler Steering column "U" joint????

Check with some online Jeep parts distributors (there are many), or your local Mopar/Chrysler/Jeep dealer for prices on a replacement intermediate shaft. I found this e-bay auction for the intermediate shaft: Item number 300202178791. The $300 that you read about in the u-joint auction are for...

    Wrangler Steering column "U" joint????

Sorry, Jim. That u-joint in the steering column is not designed to be replaced. A few months ago I looked into that for a '93 YJ, only to find that an entire steering shaft assembly was the only solution. My steering shaft u-joint wasn't bad, I was just curious then. What's the reasoning...

    Body Lift

If it's an '88 YJ you're looking to do the body lift on, be prepared for rusted and seized body mount bolts. In order to remove my rusted bolts ('93 YJ), I had to cut the floor at the seats around the bolt heads and remove the entire bolt/nut/nut housing setup. This was after liberally...

    A Winter Lightning Snow Storm!

A similar situation happened last year in my fire company's response area. The homeowners weren't home, lightning struck a tree or the ground outside the house, the energy traveled through the natural gas lines into the house and started a fire in the basement ceiling. Luckily the house had...

    steering stabilizer

Hey Jim, I've got a '93 YJ and put in a Black Diamond brand steering stabilizer. Nothing too fancy or over-the-top; it does its job with no complaints from me. Plus, it comes with a tapered sleeve to fit in the drag link bar, and the other necessary nuts and bolts. If you haven't already...

    Transmission Leaking

I had a similar problem in my '93 YJ. After replacing the valve cover gasket and cleaning out the CCV lines and elbow fittings, the engine oil blow-by into the air filter stopped, as did the oil drips onto the ground. When you go to the store for a replacement gasket, make sure it's the right...

    jeep dieing

To test for a bad alternator: -Start the vehicle's engine as normal and allow it to idle. -Remove the negative battery cable from the battery. If the engine stops upon removing the negative cable, you've got a bad alternator. The battery is used to start the engine and to support the...

    Wanted - Hi-Lift Jack

I got mine at a Harbor Freight Tools store. It's an import and was around $30 on sale. Bought one for me and one for my friend... both jacks were used to lift my YJ tub off the frame. Overall, a good buy in my book for as much as I've used it.

    Am I missing something??

Next time try a better penetrating lubricant like PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench. They'll do more work in a shorter period of time than WD-40. I'd also have to agree with redrooster.... use an impact wrench ;)
